Summary

"[Karissa] Vacker switches easily between the higher female voices and the lower male voices, creating recognizable and believable characters。。。。 Listeners will enjoy a gripping and twisty story。" —AudioFile on Earphones Award winner A Flicker in the Dark

Following up her instant New York Times bestseller, A Flicker in the Dark, Stacy Willingham delivers a totally gripping thriller about a desperate mother with a troubled past in All the Dangerous Things

One year ago, Isabelle Drake's life changed forever: her toddler son, Mason, was taken out of his crib in the middle of the night while she and her husband were asleep in the next room。 With little evidence and few leads for the police to chase, the case quickly went cold。 However, Isabelle cannot rest until Mason is returned to her—literally。

Except for the occasional catnap or small blackout where she loses track of time, she hasn’t slept in a year。

Isabelle's entire existence now revolves around finding him, but she knows she can’t go on this way forever。 In hopes of jarring loose a new witness or buried clue, she agrees to be interviewed by a true-crime podcaster—but his interest in Isabelle's past makes her nervous。 His incessant questioning paired with her severe insomnia has brought up uncomfortable memories from her own childhood, making Isabelle start to doubt her recollection of the night of Mason’s disappearance, as well as second-guess who she can trust。。。 including herself。 But she is determined to figure out the truth no matter where it leads。

3。5 stars。Reasons why I didn't find it thrilling:I prefer a fast thriller plot to a slow, drawn-out mystery, and this one was much closer to the latter than the former。 I also think the unreliable narrater thing has been overdone。 I am still willing to read them, but in most cases the whole plot shouldn't rely on the confusion of a narrater。 Something else must go on too。 I almost stopped reading halfway through because I just couldn't read any more of the sleep dysfunction stuff。Reasons why I e 3。5 stars。Reasons why I didn't find it thrilling:I prefer a fast thriller plot to a slow, drawn-out mystery, and this one was much closer to the latter than the former。 I also think the unreliable narrater thing has been overdone。 I am still willing to read them, but in most cases the whole plot shouldn't rely on the confusion of a narrater。 Something else must go on too。 I almost stopped reading halfway through because I just couldn't read any more of the sleep dysfunction stuff。Reasons why I enjoyed it:It kept me guessing。 I loved the way the two time frames came together and the unsettling questions around whether we can know and trust ourselves。 the way the mystery fitted together at the end was great。 。。。more

this is the second book i have read by this author。 the chapters alternate between past and present。 normally, i'm a fan for books with flashbacks in them, but i found myself skimming through the flashbacks here。 it was VERY slow burn too, but i liked the twist at the end。 this is the second book i have read by this author。 the chapters alternate between past and present。 normally, i'm a fan for books with flashbacks in them, but i found myself skimming through the flashbacks here。 it was VERY slow burn too, but i liked the twist at the end。 。。。more

I finished this book in one sitting。 It was just as fantastic as her first book。 I can’t wait to read more from this author!

This book was wild。 I’m so glad I couldn’t see the ending coming。 I was left completely flabbergasted。 But I’m also so happy it ended as it did。 Great psychological thriller。 I enjoyed it。

I read a lot of thrillers and so many of them are super predictable but this one kept me guessing until the last 10% of the book。 Well done。 Also the cheating justification discussion was spot on。

A slow burn and I hate an unreliable narrator, but the ending delivered and I liked the way the pieces came together。

More like a 4。5 and the best book I’ve read in a long time!! I thought multiple times that I knew what was going on, that I knew where the author was taking me, but not until 50 pages from the end did it all click!! The author did a fantastic job of weaving story lines, creating reasonable doubt, then tying it all together in a neat bow!

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I think my favorite thing about this book was how the author showed how difficult — and even dangerous — postpartum can be for women, and also how she conveyed how women blame ourselves for everything and constantly feel guilty。 It had a good twist and happy ending — I really thought Ben was guilty the second we find out Allison died。 I wish Isabelle hadn’t killed Valerie because I always have a hard time rooting for characters who murder someone, even if it’s justified (reminded me of Where the I think my favorite thing about this book was how the author showed how difficult — and even dangerous — postpartum can be for women, and also how she conveyed how women blame ourselves for everything and constantly feel guilty。 It had a good twist and happy ending — I really thought Ben was guilty the second we find out Allison died。 I wish Isabelle hadn’t killed Valerie because I always have a hard time rooting for characters who murder someone, even if it’s justified (reminded me of Where the Crawdads Sing a little bit)。 My only other complaint is that there are SO MANY similes。 She is great at them, but there were just a lot。 。。。more

I loved this。 Every word。 Somehow I happened to read three thrillers about missing children since January 1st。 I've been waiting on this book for awhile because I loved A Flicker in the Dark, and the other two I found as part of an audible sale。 This was by far the best of the three。 Dual timelines with a mystery in each so expertly plotted that I never suspected the truth, messy characters, and breathtaking description were my favorite elemements of the book。 It's a slow burn type book, not a l I loved this。 Every word。 Somehow I happened to read three thrillers about missing children since January 1st。 I've been waiting on this book for awhile because I loved A Flicker in the Dark, and the other two I found as part of an audible sale。 This was by far the best of the three。 Dual timelines with a mystery in each so expertly plotted that I never suspected the truth, messy characters, and breathtaking description were my favorite elemements of the book。 It's a slow burn type book, not a lot of action, but I was always entralled with the story。 The setting was so vivid I could smell the marsh air as I read。 I liked this one even more than A Flicker in the Dark and I'm now counting Stacy Willingham as one of my favorite authors。 。。。more

Incredible! A mystery within a mystery! I feel this book was well researched in regards to the mental health issues going on in the book。 She really put into perspective the importance of communication and getting help。 I finished it quickly and was gripping at the pages!

I flew through this in about a day and really enjoyed it。 I think I liked it just a bit more than A Flicker in the Dark from last year, but Stacy Willingham will now be an auto-read thriller author。 This one involves a missing child and sleepwalking, which is always creepy to me。 I found Isabelle really sympathetic and really wanted to see her find Mason or find out what happened to him。 Parts of this were pretty dark and affecting, but still a fast-paced thriller and I couldn't wait to find out I flew through this in about a day and really enjoyed it。 I think I liked it just a bit more than A Flicker in the Dark from last year, but Stacy Willingham will now be an auto-read thriller author。 This one involves a missing child and sleepwalking, which is always creepy to me。 I found Isabelle really sympathetic and really wanted to see her find Mason or find out what happened to him。 Parts of this were pretty dark and affecting, but still a fast-paced thriller and I couldn't wait to find out what happened in the end。 。。。more

All The Dangerous Things tells the story of a mother in despair as it’s been a year since her son was kidnapped。 She is sleep deprived, exhausted, grieving and alone while everyone around her has seemed to move on。 Told in dual timelines we get flashbacks to a pivotal moment from Isabelle’s childhood- something that has followed her around her whole life having a profound impact especially now with her son’s disappearance and present day as Isabelle struggles to grasp for any kind of answer。 I r All The Dangerous Things tells the story of a mother in despair as it’s been a year since her son was kidnapped。 She is sleep deprived, exhausted, grieving and alone while everyone around her has seemed to move on。 Told in dual timelines we get flashbacks to a pivotal moment from Isabelle’s childhood- something that has followed her around her whole life having a profound impact especially now with her son’s disappearance and present day as Isabelle struggles to grasp for any kind of answer。 I really liked the short chapters and the alternating timeline。 Everyone is suspicious and hiding something。 I was instantly suspicious of someone from the very beginning and as the story progressed all the breadcrumbs lead to the revelation of what happened。 I did figure out the twists before Isabelle did but it didn’t deter me from reading because I wanted to see how Isabelle finally put the pieces together。 This is the sophomore novel by Stacy Willingham and I enjoyed this one better than her first which I also enjoyed。 Thank you @ minotaur_books and @netgalley for this eARC in exchange for my honest feedback。 。。。more

I wasn't really rooting for the protagonist。 I wasn't rooting for anyone, really。 I wonder if I would have liked this story more if it was from Waylon's point of view? Being inside Isabelle's head just got (excuse my pun) tiring。 Hearing about her sleep deprivation over and over got redundant。 I wasn't really rooting for the protagonist。 I wasn't rooting for anyone, really。 I wonder if I would have liked this story more if it was from Waylon's point of view? Loved this thriller! The plot was excellent and kept me guessing。 Highly recommend if you like thrillers and mysteries。 My first by this author。 I’m definitely going to go back and read her debut novel。

Just ok。 Too many descriptions of things that were of little value to the overall story。 For me personally, I just don't understand how detectives aren't able to figure out details but the protagonist can? On a positive note, the chapters are short, making this a quick read。 Just ok。 Too many descriptions of things that were of little value to the overall story。 For me personally, I just don't understand how detectives aren't able to figure out details but the protagonist can? It’s been a while since I’ve read a thriller/ mystery book I cannot put down but wow I couldn’t take my mind off this book。 I could not stop questioning whether or not Isabelle was a reliable narrator and I absolutely loved that。 As someone who listened to probably too many true crime podcasts and watches so many true crime documentaries and shows, I really loved how this book subtly makes you think about the ethics of the true crime space。 I really loved how current this book was with the true It’s been a while since I’ve read a thriller/ mystery book I cannot put down but wow I couldn’t take my mind off this book。 I could not stop questioning whether or not Isabelle was a reliable narrator and I absolutely loved that。 As someone who listened to probably too many true crime podcasts and watches so many true crime documentaries and shows, I really loved how this book subtly makes you think about the ethics of the true crime space。 I really loved how current this book was with the true crime content。 It kept me guessing the whole time。 。。。more

Best domestic thriller in years! Felt like the first time I read The Death of Mrs Westaway, or Cabin 10, or Girl on a Train。 Flirts with the creepiness of a Gillian Flynn but shies away from it in the end。

A thriller with an abduction, a sleep-deprived woman with a questionable past, a womanizer, a suicide and a drowning, not necessary in that order。

A really tough read, especially for mothers。 However, if you can stick around to the end the themes and story really tie up nicely with a powerful push。 I was left speechless and the note from the author brought tears to my eyes。
